About the Artist

I'm Melanie of Melanie Dodds Photography, located in Austin, TX. After the birth of my first son, Owen, I picked up a camera and haven't put it down since. I'm fairly certain he doesn't recognize me without a camera in front of my face. My love of taking photos of my little guy has blossomed into a love of taking photos of the special milestones in people's lives, be it maternity, newborn, or baby pictures, senior portraits or even just photos because it's a Tuesday and you're having a great hair day! I genuinely love capturing special moments in time and am committed to getting that perfect picture that you can cherish for a lifetime. Austin Birthday Photography Riley’s First Birthday

Milestones come and go in the first year after your baby’s birth. The first time you lay eyes on your baby you realize what everyone was talking about when they told you, “You don’t realize your capacity for loving until you have a baby.” The first time your baby coos at you, your heart soars, and the first time they smile? Your heart fills up even more. Your heart fills up so much you cannot imagine being able to love any more than you do RIGHT. THIS. SECOND. Then the next second comes. And the next minute, the next hour, the next day, the next month. And then….before you know it…in what seems like the blink of an eye your baby is turning one. It’s a milestone among many, but one that definitely stands out. Riley’s mommy made sure of that. Katie, aka Coolest Supermom EVER, threw her baby girl a ladybug themed first birthday. From ladybug chocolate covered pretzels to ladybug decor, Katie did what any supermom does and threw a great celebration for her little baby girl’s first birthday. Thank you, Katie and Riley, for allowing me to photograph such a special milestone! Happy first birthday, Riley!

Taking pictures is always a joy. Taking pictures of little newborn baby Parker put me over the moon. She was such a great little model, barely fussed, and I cannot get enough of her sweet little rolls! Congratulations Brooke and Chad. She is gorgeous.

Austin Newborn Photography-Casting Call: NEWBORNS 12 days or younger!

Ah, babies. I just cannot get enough of them. The teeny-tiny toes, the sweet little fingers, and those expressions they make even at a few days old! Taking photos of newborns that mom and dad can cherish forever is such a joy for me and I want to share the joy with you!

Austin Newborn Photographer: Baby Gray

I met with Baby Gray and her parents last Sunday and wow! She sure is beautiful! To make it even better she had loads of smiles to share. Take a peek at how darn cute she is!

Austin Newborn Photographer: Fun Moment of the day!

Bank teller: Okay, I’m going to be nosy, but are you a newborn photographer?
Me: Yes! How did you know?
Bank teller: It was in the memo of a check. Do you have any business cards? There are two women here who are pregnant.
Me: Why yes I do!
So here’s the deal–Bank teller’s co-workers, if you book me for your upcoming newborn photos within the next two weeks, I’ll give you $15 off your session fee! To prove to me you are the right people, tell me the name AND LOCATION of the bank I went to today and the name of the teller that handed you my business card!
